Scam Alert: Policyholders Asked for Financial Information
ERIE’s Investigative Services Section has become aware of a telephone scam in which consumers are contacted by individuals claiming to represent an insurance company. The scammers claim that the victim’s insurance coverage is in danger of cancellation unless an immediate payment is made over the phone.

A number of Policyholders have contacted their ERIE Agents in reference to the calls. If you receive any questions, please reinforce the fact that Erie Insurance will never contact an insured in this manner and that they should not provide personal or financial information if they receive such a call.

Because the callers do not reference Erie Insurance directly, it appears that this is a generic scam that is in no way connected to ERIE or ERIE Policyholders specifically. To help educate Policyholders of the danger, a message about the scam is now posted on the home page of erieinsurance.com.
